Knowing Padangat

Padangat Theme Shop is a small gift shop at the second floor of the newly refurbished John Paul II atrium, an iconic building that stood witness to many changes unravelling at the Ateneo-USI junction. Full-packed with all sorts of novel gift choices, the theme shop teems with shoppers from the chattering flocks of students to the mindful drove of meticulous parents and office workers. But in this daily assemble of hustle and bustle, there is more to it than meets the eye.

Padangat is a dream come true for the couple owners, Alex and Rose Bernardo-Nayve, both visionaries of a business venture that will grow from the heaps through a decisive detour from working full-time with humanitarian and development organizations. The genesis of this dream was determined by the bold decision of Rose to give up her NGO work to enable a life of devotion to their growing children of two, or more aptly, a colony of growing ants -- Obi and Lanxe. With the inkling that time and resources are just enough, the couple enliven their dream. From this small beginning, they are now kept busy by the shop from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday to Saturday.

Padangat is the expression of the couple's continuing dream for a world that radiates unending love from people's innermost thoughts towards all directions for all beings across the ages of time. This core theme of universal, all-embracing, all-directional love is embedded in the Padangat logo, reflected in the choices of gift ideas made available in the shop, and conveyed by highly dedicated and motivated working staff. Padangat is Alex and Rose's way of enjoining others to dream their dream, and to pursue it with passion before we all come to pass.

Beyond helping people express romantic love, Padangat Theme Shop offers an assortment of gifts to express love for one's self, for parents, grandparents, friends, relatives, colleagues, and the forgotten. There are also novel gifts for priests, mayors, accountants, teachers, doctors, dentists, nurses, and just about anyone through personalized gifts. The top favorites of highly satisfied costumers include a diverse assemblage of hypoallergenic stuffed toys from Blue Magic; tasteful scrapbooks, scrapbooking accessories, notebooks, stationary pads, decorative boxes made from recycled papers, and the inspirational messages in stylish boxes.

Scents, lotions, and beauty products from Victoria's Secret have long gained popularity among the employed, and are now known for having the lowest price in Naga City. While adding diversity to the choices, the collection of wood boxes and other wood crafts, scented and decorative candles, wall decors, and inspirational decoupage never fails to satisfy the patron's need for something that will add character to the gift. Of course, the chic anik-anik, and funny romantique of greeting cards adds life to giggly and choosy teenagers. While personalized paper and wood product designs are uniquely Padangat, the shop is now venturing into sarong, tubao, and malong for the NGO workers, collectors and hobbyists.

...there is goes -- let all-embracing love radiate. Let Padangat Theme Shop help you express it.

our core theme

he who seeks to promote his welfare, having glimpsed the state of perfect peace, should be able, honest and upright, gentle in speech, meek and not proud. contented, he ought to be easy to support, not over-busy, and simple in living. tranquil his senses, let him be prudent, and not brazen, nor fawning on families. also, he must refrain from any action that gives the wise reason to reprove him. then let him cultivate the thought: may all be well and secure, may all beings be happy! whatever living creatures there be, without exception, weak or strong, long, huge or middle-sized, or short, minute or bulky, whether visible or invisible, and those living far or near, the born and those seeking birth, may all beings be happy! let none deceive or decry his fellow anywhere; let none wish others harm in resentment or in hate. just as with her own life a mother shields from hurt her own son, her only child, let all-embracing thoughts for all beings be yours. cultivate an all-embracing mind of love for all throughout the universe, in all its height, depth and breadth – love that is untroubled and beyond hatred or enmity. as you stand, walk, sit or lie, so long as you are awake, pursue this awareness with your might: it is deemed the Divine State here. holding no more to wrong beliefs, with virtue and vision of the ultimate, and having overcome all sensual desire, never in a womb is one born again. (buddha's hymn of universal love)
